Description

• This position educates students and teaches them new skills and links students to essential resources within the University community for students within Seton College, the Associate’s Degree division of the University of Mount Saint Vincent. • This position also works collaboratively with faculty and staff to provide appropriate information and programming re: mental health and wellness for students. • The Community Wellness Advocate reports to the Associate Dean for Student Engagement. • Provides academic and community support to students enrolled in Seton College. • Provides, as available, short and long-term support to families and parents of students. • Cooperation with other student personnel workers, school personnel and community agencies. • In collaboration with other staff at Seton College, creates and implements programming related to mental health and wellness. • Supports the delivery of major programming initiatives within Seton College, including the summer orientation program, wellness programs, career fairs. • Has knowledge of internal and external services, community, and government agencies; engages appropriate follow-up when referrals are made. • Serves as a liaison between school and community resources. • Maintains appropriate school records and provides written reports and communications. • Participates as a resource person in in-service training and planning. • Acts as a consultant to resolve problems concerning behavioral and clinical factors that influence academic performance. • In collaboration with staff and faculty, the Community Wellness Advocate will respond to student issues. • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in psychology, counseling, social work, special education or related field, with demonstrated experience community advocacy and/or other outreach work. Supervised experience with a college or young adult population preferred. • Knowledgeable of opportunity programs such as Higher Education Opportunity Program, TRiO and other college access programs. • Experience in crisis intervention preferred • Experience building relationships with external/community partners preferred. • Verbal and written communications skills in English and Spanish preferred.
